But there are only so many genres.
I was bitting my nails trying to figure out what the hell to write about today. And then I found one I haven't written about yet! In fact it's a genre I've never attempted to write, and I'm not even sure I've ever read a novel in this genre.
What is Steampunk:
From Wiki: Steampunk is best described as retro-futuristic. I really love that description. It's often a combination of retro settings (The Wild West, Victorian Brian, etc.) with futuristic, steam powered machinery and inventions. I like this option as well: A post-apocalyptic future where steam power has regained mainstream use, or in a fantasy world that similarly employs steam power.
The theme here is steam powered bad-ass-ness :)
Often the retro part of the retro-futuristic plays out in clothing, architecture, culture, art, etc. There's a definite fashion and style that goes along with steampunk. This is so cool. It's a whole hybrid, sub-genre that I need to check out!
