So yesterday I did a writing #1k1hr with some writer friends on Twitter. If you're currently mumbling to yourself, "what the hell is a 1k1hr," don't worry! Until a couple. Weeks ago I had no idea either.
The idea is simple. Write for an hour (1hr), and shoot for at least a thousand (1k) words! Yesterday I stopped at 45 minutes because I already had 1.1k. Go me!
I love doing these sprints with other people on Twitter because the writing community has the very best people! Whenever I need it I can get advice, assistance, or a great cheerleader. If you are interested check out some of the writing hashtags on Twitter and jump into these great communities and activities. Also connect with me in Twitter :)
I said yesterday that I may include and excerpt from my writing and I think I will do that now! Below is a few sections from my sprint yesterday. It is taken from the new dark adult thriller novel I'm working on. I am about 10k into it and around 35 pages. This is really good progress for me, because often I have great ideas that potter out around 10+ pages.
As a disclaimer this WIP is adult! Also Forgive the formatting mistakes I copied and pasted with my handy dandy iPhone. Finally, I have made no edits since my writing yesterday, so please forgive the mistakes :)
Around lunch time my kindness to Eva backfires as I see her walking down the hall toward my office with a devilish smirk on her pouty pink lips.
“Knock, knock, knock.” She pauses to smile flashing her obviously bleached teeth. “May I come in?” I would whole heartedly love to say no. But of course I can’t.
“Of course you may.” I nearly choke on the acidic words that scrape my throat on the way out.
Strangely Eva closes my door behind her as she walks in past the door frame. Hhmmm
“Please, sit. What can I do for you this afternoon Eva?”
She sits while I gesture toward the plush leather chair across from my desk. I cannot help but notice how her skin tight skirt rides up above her knees as she sits. She does not cross her legs, but she simply holds them together at the knee with her feet tipped to one side of her frame. No matter how much I hate her, I would really love to look between those knees.
Shit. Focus Aidan.
Did she say something I missed? No I don’t think so.
Her lips part and she leans a fraction forward dipping the hem of her collar a millimeter lower. I would give even more to see under that shirt.
Good job focusing idiot.
“I was wondering if you would like to join me for lunch today? I have a few ideas for our department that I would really like to run by you.” Ummm what? Really? Why me?
“I would love to.” I give my best seductive smile, and apparently it works. Eva’s cheeks turn a shade warmer in appreciation.
Good. Don’t tell anyone else what we talk about today. I am letting you into this first, and I want your opinions before I solidify everything. I trust you Aidan. I want you to know that.”
Seriously? That is absolutely a terrible idea.
